Chippewa National Forest was originally named the Minnesota National Forest, the name was changed in 1928 to honor the area's original inhabitants, the Chippewa. This National Forest also shares boundaries with the Leech Lake Indian Reservation, giving visitors a chance to experience Anishinabe culture. With more than 400,000 acres of open water and wetlands, it's one of the most aquatic National Forests and also includes the nation's highest breeding population of Bald Eagles.
